Privacy Policy
MotivScan
Last updated: 5 November 2026
This policy describes the MotivScan app for iPhone and Android, and this website. MotivScan is a wellness log. It is not a hospital and it is not a medical device.
1. Who is responsible
Kian Health & Technology AB, organisation number 559608-5521, decides how MotivScan uses your information. The company is established in Sweden.
Email: info@motivscan.com Post: Tåtplatsen 2, 211 10 Malmö, Sweden
No separate data protection officer is appointed. Use the email above for privacy requests.
2. Who this is for
You need to be 16 or older. We do not knowingly keep an account for anyone younger. If you believe an account belongs to someone under 16, email us and we will delete it.
3. What MotivScan uses
Account. We store your email and how you sign in. You can sign in with email and a password, or with Apple or Google if you choose that option. Session information stays on your phone so you can stay signed in.
Profile. Age, sex, height, weight, goal, and activity level. From those, the app calculates energy needs and targets, including an estimate of basal metabolic rate and daily energy use.
Food log. Meals and drinks you enter or confirm: name, time, meal slot, amount, and nutrition figures. You can save meals and supplements, including a supplement’s name, form, and nutrients. Nutrient values come from USDA FoodData Central, or from Open Food Facts when you scan a barcode. They do not come from OpenAI. You check, and can edit, every food and weight before a meal is logged.
Body log. Weight and body-composition readings from a scale you connect, such as body fat, muscle, water, lean mass, and segmental readings, with the time of the reading.
Activity and recovery. Steps, distance, active calories, workouts, sleep, heart rate, resting heart rate, heart-rate variability, blood oxygen, and skin or wrist temperature. These can come from what you type, from a band you connect, or, if you allow it, from Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android. A band reading and a phone-health reading are estimates from that device. They are not medical readings.
Cycle log. Optional, and off until you turn it on. It can include cycle length, bleed length, period start dates, and a wrist-temperature guess. That guess is not a fertility reading and it is not a medical reading. Period dates can reveal information about pregnancy.
Meal photo. If you agree separately, a photo of a meal is sent to OpenAI so the foods can be named and their shares and the meal weight can be estimated. The same kind of separate agreement applies to a Pro scan of a supplement-facts label. MotivScan uses the result to fill a review screen. Nothing is logged until you confirm it. MotivScan does not keep the photo in your account.
Purchase. If you buy MotivScan Pro, Apple or Google processes the payment. MotivScan receives the subscription status, tied to your account, so Pro can be restored. We do not receive your card number.
Phone permissions. The camera is used for barcodes and meal photos. Bluetooth is used to connect a body scale, a kitchen scale, or a smart band. On Android, the system may ask for location permission before it can list nearby Bluetooth devices. MotivScan uses that permission only to find a device. It does not read or store your GPS position. The microphone is not used.
This website. These pages do not ask you to create an account and they do not collect a health log. If you email us, we use that message to answer you.
4. Why
We use the account to provide MotivScan. That is the service you sign up for. An email address is required for an account. You can refuse health-data consent. Without that consent the app cannot keep a health log.
Body, diet, activity, sleep, heart, and cycle details are health information. We use them only with your explicit consent, so the app can show your log, targets, and forecasts.
Meal-photo analysis is a separate choice. Accepting this notice is not by itself a choice to send a meal photo. You can use MotivScan without sending a photo.
On the free plan, an advertisement can be requested while a meal photo is being read, so the free plan can be offered. Pro does not request that ad. The health log is not used to build an advertising profile.
Targets and forecasts are calculated for you to read. They are estimates. They are not a decision about medical treatment, insurance, credit, or employment.
5. Model training
MotivScan does not currently retain a separate copy of your health records to train its own AI model. It does not currently archive meal photos for its own AI training.
A meal photo sent for analysis is a different activity. It is sent to OpenAI so the foods can be named, and you review the result before anything is logged.
MotivScan asks OpenAI not to retain the request for later retrieval. That is not a statement that OpenAI keeps no record of it. OpenAI may keep API content for a limited time for abuse monitoring unless a stricter retention arrangement applies to this account. OpenAI says it does not use API data to train its models by default.
MotivScan does not promise that a third party deletes every copy when you delete your account.
Copies of health figures made before this notice are not used to train a model. They are not anonymous. Account deletion does not automatically remove those older copies. You can ask about them at the contact address. Whether those older copies are deleted is a separate decision.
6. Who else receives it
Supabase hosts the account and the database in Ireland, in the EU.
Google or Apple receives a sign-in request only if you choose that sign-in.
OpenAI receives a meal photo, or a Pro supplement-label photo, only after you agree, through its API. What OpenAI returns is used to build the review screen and, after you confirm, your own log.
USDA FoodData Central receives food names to look up, without your name or email.
Open Food Facts receives a barcode when you scan one, so a packaged product can be identified. The request does not include your name or email. The product database is operated from France.
On the free plan, Google AdMob can receive an advertising request while a meal photo is being read. That request does not include the photo and it does not include your meals, body log, or other health records. Where required, Google’s own consent form is shown before an ad is requested. If you refuse, the app does not request the ad. On iPhone, an advertising identifier is used only if you allow tracking. Pro does not request that ad.
Apple or Google bills a subscription. RevenueCat processes the subscription status, keyed by your MotivScan account id, so Pro can be restored.
We do not write your log back to Apple Health or to Health Connect. We do not sell your personal information.
7. Where it is kept
The account database is in Ireland, inside the EU. The health log on the phone is encrypted. The account and the health log are encrypted in transit. Android backup of the app is off. A backup you make yourself through the phone’s operating system can still contain a local copy. Each account can read only its own rows in the database.
Some helpers, including OpenAI, USDA FoodData Central, and RevenueCat, work outside the EU. Google and Apple also process data outside the EU. When information goes there, we use the transfer tools EU law requires, including the standard contractual clauses.
8. How long
We keep the account and the personal health log until you delete the account or withdraw health-data consent. Then we delete that personal information from the account database. The steps, and the short list of what can remain, are on the Account deletion page.
MotivScan is not currently adding a separate training copy of the log or a meal-photo archive. Older copies, if any were made before this notice, are described in section 5.
Deleting the account does not by itself prove that a third party has deleted its own logs. Apple, Google, OpenAI, and the advertising and food-lookup services keep records under their own rules.
An email you send us is kept long enough to answer it and, where we have to, to show how the request was handled.
9. Your choices
In the app, open Settings, then Privacy and security. From there you can:
- export a copy of your data
- withdraw health-data consent
- withdraw meal-photo consent
- delete the account
Withdrawing health-data consent deletes the personal health data stored for the account, including age, sex, height, and weight, and clears the copy on that phone. The account can remain. That deletion cannot be undone.
Withdrawing meal-photo consent means the next photo will ask for your agreement again.
You can also email info@motivscan.com and ask for a copy, a correction, a limit on how we use the information, or deletion. You can object to a use that the app itself does not need. You can withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect use that was already lawful before the withdrawal.
You can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection, Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY), at imy.se. You do not have to write to us first. If you live in another EU country, you may also complain to the authority there.
10. Changes
If this notice changes in a way that matters, MotivScan asks you to read it again before the health log continues. The date at the top of this page is the version date.
